| PSS LIVERPOOL In 2007, Playback Theatre Manchester was asked to do a performance for young refugees and asylum seekers who are accessing a counselling service run by PSS in Liverpool. The organisation was so pleased with the young people's response to the performance, we were asked to return in 2008 for a series of five performances and a day of Playback workshops. One Playback actor said, "Listening to the stories of the young people was so moving. Many of these young people have been through
experiences of terror and loss which are beyond anything we could
imagine. It was a challenge and a privilege to be trusted with
these stories, and to be part of
the process of healing."The project was theatrically challenging as we had to work with up to 6 different languages, but in collaboration with the interpreters we adapted our practice and developed effective working methods which meant everyone shared the full experience. These are some quotes from
professionals who were
invited to attend the final performance:"Thanks. I was bowled over by the Playback work." "Thanks to all the young people and the wonderful performers for opening up the session to outsiders like me. I've been on an roller coaster of emotions and deeply touched by some of the stories, both sad and happy, that I have listened to this morning. This stuff should be recorded and broadcasted across the whole world!" "I just wanted to say thank you for inviting me along to today's event. I found it very thought provoking and interesting to listen to, and see, stories from other peoples' lives. I thought the performers were extremely skilled and Viv dealt with all participants in a very sensitive way." ![]() PSS is hoping to be able to run a similar programme annually.
