ABOUT US WHO ARE PLAYBACK THEATRE MANCHESTER? Playback Theatre Manchester was founded in 1992. Performers come from many professional backgrounds including training, lecturing, acting, teaching and psychotherapy. PLAYBACK'S HISTORY It was developed in the 1970s by American actor and psychodramatist Jonathan Fox and his original Playback Theatre company in Dutchess County, N.Y. It grew out of his interest in improvisation, oral traditions of storytelling and the importance of ritual. Since then, companies have been formed all over the world and today there are over 100 companies worldwide. It was affirming to see the story played and such fun. People's thoughts acted out in a way that everyone could relate to. Well done. To see what was, for me, a traumatic event re-enacted, helped me to exorcise the ghosts that still haunt me. All the team should attend an event like this to raise awareness. I realise that I am not alone. |
